Scaling is the process of removing stubborn deposits from a tooth's surface. The gums may become irritated and start to peel away from the tooth when oral bacteria deposit plaque and tartar on the teeth. Plaque-filled pockets may result from this, and regular brushing and flossing will not be able to eliminate the plaque from these pockets. To thoroughly clean the teeth, an ultrasonic scaler is used.
